چکیده
A clinical case of a 67-year-old patient suffering from severe iron deficiency anemia, caused by gastric antral vascular ectasia (GAVE), is described. This type angiodysplasia characterized distinct endoscopic picture and rare cause bleeding. Endoscopic hemostasis considered the main method treatment, however, after argon plasma coagulation (APC), in our case, anemia recurred, required repeated hospitalization blood transfusion. Indications for surgical treatment were established, Billroth I antrumectomy proved to be effective refractory GAVE.

Eight patients (six women and two men) were found to have iron deficiency anaemia due to diffuse gastric antral vascular ectasia. The mean age of the patients was 74.6 years (range 57-83). All required repeated blood transfusions (mean 18 units/year) before treatment. Five patients were classified as having the 'watermelon stomach' (group A) and three the 'honeycomb stomach' (group B), accordin...

Therapeutic regiments include iron supplementation with acid suppressive therapy, while endoscopic intervention has been...
